San Miguel de Allende: The City They Boast About, But Have Abandoned

9

An image that depicts what is truly happening here—for only a few of us continue to expose what goes on in this place, while others—who once claimed to be the “voice of the people” and call themselves journalists without actually being one (since merely saying you are one is not enough; you must possess a degree to substantiate it)—and so many others simply choose to remain silent.

A municipality devoid of public works, in a state of total abandonment: public squares left unmaintained, potholes everywhere, streets that are completely unsafe, muggings occurring everywhere, residential burglaries, murders—not to mention the trash strewn everywhere, as it seems that for #SanMigueldeAllende, only the historic center matters; outside of that area, it appears as though the rest simply does not exist.

A 911 emergency service that seems not to exist at all—much like the departments of Public Security and Municipal Traffic.

Quite simply, a lawless place—where only a select few take pride in their supposedly “earned” titles.
