The construction sector in Mazatlán continues to experience slow economic activity; however, investors in private projects are managing the situation, stated Hugomar Peraza Ponce.
The president of the Mexican Chamber of the Construction Industry (CMIC) Sinaloa South, commented that strengthening security conditions and generating greater investor confidence are essential to reactivating investment.
He noted that construction is one of the main indicators of a region’s economic activity, and the current low activity demonstrates that Mazatlán has not yet achieved a full economic recovery.
“It’s clear that the economy isn’t moving. It’s somewhat stagnant. We continue working, we continue fighting to sustain ourselves as business owners,” he said.
He acknowledged that in public works, municipal and state governments maintain active investment programs through bidding processes, calls for proposals, and direct awards, which has allowed the construction companies affiliated with the chamber to partially sustain their activity.
Peraza Ponce emphasized the importance of awarding construction projects to local companies, as this strengthens the local economy and fosters greater competitiveness.
“When projects are carried out by local builders, everyone benefits,” he stated, noting that many current projects are better suited to the infrastructure and operational capacity of local businesses.
The construction industry leader pointed out that formal employment in the sector creates the expectation of being able to obtain affordable housing through Infonavit or Fovissste loans, making it crucial for companies to remain active.
