A violent day left at least five people dead and three injured in Culiacán and Mazatlán, Sinaloa, between Saturday and Sunday morning, according to reports from local media.
In Culiacán, two men were shot dead on Saturday afternoon while traveling in a white Nissan Versa, just a few meters from the Government Palace.
The attack occurred at the intersection of Constitución Boulevard and Lázaro Cárdenas Avenue. The vehicle was left with multiple bullet impacts on the windshield and side windows.
Municipal Police officers and Army personnel arrived at the scene, where Red Cross paramedics confirmed the deaths of both occupants.
Later, two other men were killed inside a beer outlet in the Infonavit Barrancos neighborhood.
The attack occurred at a business located on Coníferas Avenue, between Rosendo Rodríguez Street and Andador Artículo 83, where armed men entered and opened fire directly at the victims, who were behind the counter.
The victims were later identified as a customer and an employee of the business.
In both cases, the crime scenes were cordoned off by security personnel, while investigators from the State Attorney General’s Office collected evidence as part of the investigation.
In Mazatlán, two armed men traveling on motorcycles opened fire on a couple in the Montuosa neighborhood.
A man and a woman were injured in the attack, which occurred at the intersection of Segunda Nuevo León and Pérez Arce streets. Both were taken to a hospital.
In another attack, a woman was shot while walking along Santa Rosa Avenue in the Infonavit Jabalíes neighborhood.
The three injured people were treated by paramedics and transported to receive medical attention.
The violence continued on Sunday morning in Culiacán, where the body of a man wrapped in white sheets was found along the Culiacán-Eldorado Highway.
The discovery was made at around 8:30 a.m., at kilometer 181, approximately one kilometer from the Costa Rica interchange.
The area was secured by security personnel and military forces, and State Attorney General’s Office personnel arrived at the scene to process the area and transfer the body to the Forensic Medical Service.
