Congresswoman Mónica Fernández Montúfar, of the Citizens’ Movement (MOCI), presented figures illustrating the decline in tourism in Campeche, a situation she summarized with the expression, “It’s a disaster.” She denounced that both Adda Solís and Jorge Luis Lavalle Maury have failed to deliver on the support agreed upon two months ago for hotel owners in Calakmul.
She explained that the 2025 Public Accounts data reflects a decrease in various tourism indicators. She pointed out that the rate of change in tourism revenue was -3.52 percent compared to 2024, and that the number of tourists staying in hotels registered a 5.5 percent drop.
Furthermore, she maintained that the number of visitors to attractions managed by the Ministry of Tourism also remains negative, currently receiving an average of 144 visitors per day.
From the podium, Fernández Montúfar recalled that various legislators have warned about the decline in tourism activity in the state and pointed out that this affects a sector that should represent a significant source of income for the state.
The legislator cited the case of business owners and merchants in Calakmul, who, she asserted, face unfair competition from the hotel managed by the Mexican Army. She also criticized the fact that the commitments made by state authorities during a meeting held two months ago have not shown any progress.
Fernández Montúfar stated that she had expected greater attention to the demands raised by tourism service providers and lamented that, to date, no report has been presented on the fulfillment of the agreements reached.
