Two American children who were the subject of an international Amber Alert were returned to their mother in the port of San Felipe by the Baja California Attorney General’s Office.
The children, ages 10 and 1, were abducted in Utah, USA, by their father, Richman Dane Stephen, who crossed into Mexico through Tijuana and sought refuge in this Baja California port city.
Through binational coordination between Baja California authorities and the FBI, the American man was apprehended using surveillance cameras that allowed authorities to identify the vehicle and its route within Mexican territory.
The children were found in good health and were placed in the care of the Market Place Missions civil association.
The operation was led by the State Investigation Agency (AEI) under the coordination of the State Attorney General, María Elena Andrade, in close collaboration with FBI authorities and law enforcement agencies from all three levels of government.
On Wednesday afternoon, the children’s mother arrived in Baja California through the Mexicali Central Border Crossing and completed the necessary procedures with the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The mother acknowledged the intervention and coordination of Mexican and U.S. authorities. She was later transferred to the border crossing to return to her home in the United States.
