The State Civil Protection Coordination issued a new weather report indicating that, should the Popocatépetl volcano emit ash in the coming hours, wind currents will favor its movement toward the southern part of Puebla state and neighboring states.

According to dispersion models from authorities, the volcanic material will take a different route than in recent days, heading mainly towards: – The Atlixco Valley (Puebla) – The Mixteca region of Puebla – Areas of the state of Morelos (due to the wind’s projection towards the south-southwest)

Given this scenario, Civil Protection reminded the public of the importance of mitigating respiratory and infrastructure risks through the following preventive actions: 1. Personal protection: Wear a face mask, avoid outdoor physical or recreational activities, and properly protect your eyes, nose, and mouth. 2. Safeguarding supplies: Completely cover water tanks, cisterns, and other water containers to prevent contamination by volcanic material.

The National Center for Disaster Prevention (Cenapred) and State Civil Protection maintain constant monitoring of the volcano 24 hours a day to immediately report any increase in the volcanic alert level.
