Violence and total impunity have once again taken hold in the heart of the Chiapas capital. A video circulating on social media shows a group of men, believed to be Colombian and Venezuelan, brutally beating a young man in downtown Tuxtla Gutiérrez. #tuxtlagutierrez
The most worrying aspect of the situation is that the attack occurred just meters from City Hall, in the midst of families walking by, and in full view of citizens who couldn’t believe what they were seeing. This highlights a concerning lack of control in the busiest areas, which are now controlled by Venezuelans.
The attackers acted with complete impunity and excessive cruelty, kicking and punching the victim while he lay defenseless on the ground.
Despite the seriousness of the incident, no patrol cars or municipal police officers appeared to assist the victim. #Berriozábal
How long will Mayor Ángel Torres stand idly by while foreigners take over downtown Tuxtla and his government is conspicuously absent?
