Two of the most important highway corridors in northern Mexico are under construction. The routes in Chihuahua are part of the 2026 National Highway Conservation Program, with work beginning in March 2026 and continuing until the end of the year.

Which routes in Chihuahua will be under construction until December?

The Chihuahua-Ciudad Juárez and Jiménez-Chihuahua routes, two corridors considered strategic for connectivity and freight transport, will remain under construction until December 2026.

The repair work began in March of this year as part of an investment of more than 8 billion pesos in highway conservation in the Northwest region (comprising Baja California, Baja California Sur, Chihuahua, Durango, Sonora, and Sinaloa), which is expected to cover 3,170 kilometers.

According to the Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation, Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina, progress has been made so far on 373 kilometers of roads in the region, equivalent to 12% of the regional goal.

What is the scope of the 2026 National Highway Conservation Program in Mexico?

In addition to these routes in Chihuahua, other highways throughout the country are under construction. Nationally, the program includes improvements to more than 52,000 kilometers of federal highways: 40,568 km of toll-free roads and 11,496 km of toll highways. The objective is to improve road safety, reduce logistics costs, and strengthen connectivity.

The program includes an investment of 50 billion pesos to improve 18,000 kilometers of federal highways and generate 100,000 jobs nationwide.
