CNTE in Oaxaca: 16 gas stations close due to blockades.

The economic and logistical situation in the state has been severely compromised by social unrest. The CNTE in Oaxaca has maintained constant blockades at Pemex facilities, bringing operations to a standstill.

José Luis Ballesteros Melgar, president of the state’s association of gas station owners, detailed the situation in an interview with Luis Cárdenas: “A couple of days ago, Section 22 decided to blockade the El Tule terminal 24 hours a day for an indefinite period.” This action triggered a domino effect that quickly left 16 gas stations without a drop of fuel.

The shortage escalated rapidly, primarily affecting the Central Valleys. As Ballesteros Melgar explained: “It was a snowball effect; a customer unable to find fuel at their usual station would go to the next one. Naturally, that station had to serve both its regular customers and the new arrivals, causing inventories to deplete dramatically.”

The crisis forced business owners to seek costly alternatives at other terminals, increasing transport times and freight costs. Uncertainty led to long lines at stations that still had fuel, while pressure mounted on the CNTE in Oaxaca amidst growing public discontent.

Fortunately, following the clearing of the terminal in the early hours of the morning, service has begun to return to normal. “Today, several of the stations that had been closed are receiving fuel and reopening,” noted the association president.

However, the sector remains on high alert, hoping to avoid further closures that could destabilize the region once again. Stable gasoline supplies remain a critical priority for citizens and the economy, particularly given the context of the CNTE protests in Oaxaca.
