Before filling up your car’s tank, check the prices of the main fuel types in Mexico this Monday, June 22, as reported by the National Energy Commission (CNE) and the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco).
Fuel prices vary daily, so it is important to stay informed about their highest and lowest costs.
Fuel Prices for Today
The average price of regular gasoline (Magna) is 23.697 pesos per liter.
Premium gasoline is sold at an average of 28.49 pesos per liter.
Finally, diesel is priced at an average of 27.144 pesos per liter.
Changes in Gasoline Prices in Mexico
After the elimination of the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE), the National Energy Commission (CNE) began operations in March 2025 as the sole regulatory body for Mexico’s energy sector. This technical agency is responsible for regulating, supervising, and imposing sanctions on energy-related activities.
The CNE’s mission is to ensure sovereignty, security, and self-sufficiency in the energy sector in accordance with policies established by the Ministry of Energy (Sener). According to the Government of Mexico, the agency carries out the following main activities in the hydrocarbons sector:
- Regulating prices and tariffs.
- Granting permits to store, transport, and sell gasoline.
- Maintaining a public and updated record of these activities.
The organization does not operate in isolation; it is coordinated with Sener to maintain technical and operational autonomy, ensuring that all decisions are based on professional criteria.
The final price of gasoline is determined by production costs, distribution, logistics, taxes, and international hydrocarbon market prices. Fuels are a very important component of the economy and play a key role in determining inflation in each country.
The president Claudia Sheinbaum and the business sector signed an agreement in early 2025 aiming to keep the price of Magna gasoline capped at a maximum of 24 pesos per liter.
