The state of Oaxaca has seen an increase in violence against mayors and former mayors in the last two months, with a total of three murders and two armed attacks.
The first murder of a man who held this office in the state occurred on April 13: Francisco Fidel Gijón Vásquez, who served two terms as mayor of San Miguel del Puerto, was killed while socializing in the town center when a group of armed men shot him.
