A minor was murdered in a bar in Huatulco; the number of violent deaths of women in Oaxaca this year has reached 37.

Perla A. Mendoza, 17 years old, was murdered with a firearm in the heart of Santa María Huatulco, in the coastal region of Oaxaca. This brings the total number of violent deaths of women in Oaxaca to 37 so far in 2016.

On Sunday, June 28, Perla A. Mendoza was murdered in a bar in downtown Santa María Huatulco, in the coastal region of Oaxaca.

According to neighbors, at least two gunshots were heard, and the victim, a resident of the new neighborhood in Huatulco, was later found dead.

The area was cordoned off, and personnel from the Oaxaca State Attorney General’s Office arrived to remove the body and conduct the corresponding autopsy.

Family and friends of the young woman are demanding that her death be clarified and that those responsible for the femicide be punished.

With the murder of Perla A., the number of violent deaths of women in the state of Oaxaca has reached five in June alone. The coastal region has the highest number of femicides.

According to the Rosario Castellanos Women’s Studies Group, 37 women have been murdered, with the Isthmus of Tehuantepec and the coastal region being the most violent for women in Oaxaca.
