The head of the Sinaloa Tourism Secretariat, Mireya Sosa Osuna, declared that they will be redoubling their efforts to further promote Mazatlán in Canada. This comes after airlines Air Canada, WestJet, Sunwing, and Air Transat canceled their routes to Cuba due to the current energy and social crisis.

The state official pointed out that, following the cancellation of these routes to Cuba, Canadians who had planned to travel to the island are looking for alternative destinations, so the only options for sun and beach destinations during the winter will be Mexico and Puerto Rico.
In that regard, she stated that Mazatlán has excellent direct air connections with Canada, which will be a great opportunity for Canadians who will no longer be traveling to Cuba.
We are also looking for international destinations. Right now, that’s precisely what we’re looking at for the second half of this year: how many international flights we expect to attract, especially from Canada and the United States. In Canada, as I’ve already mentioned, we have very high expectations. There’s a lot of interest from Canadian tourists. We’re aware of the situation with Cuba. So, they’re looking at other destinations like Puerto Rico and Mexico. And well, Mazatlán, being such a well-known destination for Canadians, truly presents a great opportunity, and several airlines have already expressed interest, not just the ones we currently have, stated Mireya Sosa Osuna.

She explained that Mazatlán currently has direct flights to Canada through WestJet and Sunwing airlines, and Air Canada will soon be added (December 15). This indicates that routes could increase, bringing more Canadian tourists during the winter season and allowing them to target this market for the benefit of Mazatlán and its tourism economy.
What is being done to support domestic tourism?
Regarding domestic tourism, Mireya Sosa commented that they have been establishing a series of promotional agreements with various platforms such as Despegar, Expedia, and PriceTravel, among other strategies that are helping to keep Mazatlán in the public eye and generate interest among domestic tourists visiting the port.
