The former vacation home of Mario Moreno “Cantinflas” in San Miguel de Allende has been transformed into a four-star hotel featuring spacious gardens, a swimming pool, miniature golf, and a restaurant.
Cantinflas’ legacy lives on not only through classic films such as The Street Sweeper (El Barrendero), Here’s the Point (Ahí Está el Detalle), and The Teacher (El Profe), but also through the places where he lived, many of which have been preserved for their historical significance.
One of those places is the Hotel Misión San Miguel de Allende, which once served as Cantinflas’ private country retreat. There, he frequently hosted famous guests including Pedro Infante, Jorge Negrete, and María Félix.
Today, the property is open to the public, allowing visitors to stay in the historic estate while enjoying its gardens, outdoor pool, and miniature golf course.
Cantinflas’ Country Home on the Outskirts of San Miguel de Allende
The former residence is now the Hotel Misión San Miguel de Allende, a popular four-star hotel located about a 15-minute walk from the city’s historic center, near the Salida Real a Querétaro.
Situated in a quiet area away from the city’s busiest streets, the property offers a peaceful setting ideal for relaxation.
Cantinflas, the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema actor and Golden Globe Award winner, purchased the estate in 1960 as a family vacation home. For many years it served as his private retreat, where he entertained friends such as Pedro Infante, Jorge Negrete, and María Félix.
The Property Became a Four-Star Hotel
In 1975, Cantinflas’ country home was expanded into a traditional Mexican hacienda featuring extensive gardens, sports facilities, and a swimming pool.
Several years later, the property was sold to the Mexican hotel chain Hoteles Misión, which operates hotels throughout the country.
Following the acquisition, the company transformed the estate into a family-oriented resort by adding approximately 60 villa-style guest rooms decorated in a simple colonial style.
The rooms include modern amenities, including complimentary Wi-Fi.
