Within a 24-hour period, Highway 57, near Corregidora Stadium in Querétaro, saw two major multi-vehicle crashes caused by heavy trucks that allegedly lost their brakes. The accidents damaged 20 vehicles and left 28 people injured.

Two Pileups on Highway 57

The first crash occurred on Thursday, July 2, when a cement truck collided with 12 vehicles, leaving nine people injured.

The second crash took place on Friday, July 3, involving another heavy truck and eight additional vehicles. According to the Querétaro Medical Emergency Coordination Center (CRUM), 19 people were injured.

Both accidents occurred on the same stretch of Highway 57, in the urban area heading toward Celaya.

A Similar Crash Had Already Occurred Earlier

A similar multi-vehicle collision was reported in the same area on March 24, resulting in two fatalities after occupants of passenger vehicles became trapped between heavy trucks.

Authorities have acknowledged that the section of highway descending from the area known as Cuesta China is particularly hazardous because vehicles can reach very high speeds.

To reduce the risk of similar accidents, authorities have proposed constructing an emergency truck escape ramp, although the project has not yet been completed.

“Once again today, just 24 hours later, we have another incident involving multiple victims and multiple vehicles on this section of Highway 57. Fortunately, there were no fatalities and no injuries requiring immediate transport to a hospital,” said Carlos Casillas, director of the Querétaro Medical Emergency Coordination Center (CRUM).
