A total of 203 films from 55 countries will be featured at the 29th Guanajuato International Film Festival (GIFF), which will run from July 24 to August 2 in Guanajuato City and San Miguel de Allende.
Details of the festival were presented on Monday, July 6, with a program that includes national and international productions, official competitions, special screenings, conferences, and awards for prominent figures in the film industry.

What can you expect to see at GIFF 2026 in Guanajuato and San Miguel?

Of the films slated for this year, 155 will be in competition. The program will also include works from nine Mexican states and will be screened at various venues in the two host cities.
The first stage will take place from July 24 to 27 in Guanajuato City, while activities will continue from July 29 to August 2 in San Miguel de Allende.
The festival’s opening in Guanajuato City will be marked by the screening of Palestine 36, directed by Annemarie Jacir.
The opening screening will be held on Friday, July 24, from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at the Teatro Juárez. The film is a co-production between Palestine, the United Kingdom, and Belgium.
In Guanajuato City, the program will be distributed across nine venues, including the Teatro Juárez, Teatro Cervantes, the steps of the University of Guanajuato, the Tienda del Sol Tunnel, the Santa Paula Cemetery, Casa Escarola, and La Casona de Ivana, as well as various film exhibition spaces.

The activities will take place on Thursday, July 30, from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m., at the Rodolfo Fernández Theater in the Instituto Allende Cultural Center in San Miguel de Allende. Ten other venues are also planned, including the Ignacio Ramírez “El Nigromante” Cultural Center, the Santa Ana Theater, the Jardines Nueva Vida Cemetery, and the Rodolfo Fernández Theater at the Instituto Allende.
Among the other key announcements for this edition are the tributes to actress Marina de Tavira and producer Inna Payán, in collaboration with the Women in Film and Television Association.
The Official Selection of Mexican Feature Films will consist of 14 productions from five states.
The program also includes 11 titles in the Official Selection of International Feature Film and Documentary Competition.
The 29th edition of GIFF will take place from July 24 to August 2, with a program that will combine exhibitions, competitions, tributes and meetings with professionals from the audiovisual industry.
