On July 5, authorities in Baja California Sur confirmed the discovery of five clandestine graves in the municipality of San José del Cabo. The finding represents progress in the search operations being carried out in the region and highlights the ongoing need for search efforts across the state.

The graves were located through close coordination between the State Commission for the Search of Missing Persons and the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office of the State Attorney General’s Office (PGJE). The active participation of search collectives was also instrumental, as they have continued their efforts to seek justice and locate their missing relatives.

Once the area was secured, the official exhumation process was conducted under strict safety protocols and crime scene preservation procedures. These operations were coordinated and protected by personnel from the Mexican Navy, the Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA), and the National Guard.

According to an official statement issued by the state prosecutor’s office, the skeletal remains recovered from the graves were carefully packaged and transported to specialized forensic laboratories to begin genetic and forensic anthropological identification procedures.

The forensic examinations to be conducted in the coming weeks will be crucial in determining the identities of the victims, as well as the possible causes and estimated time of death. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to keeping the families of registered missing persons informed throughout the identification process.

This discovery in San José del Cabo underscores the need to strengthen public security policies and provide additional resources to search commissions. Meanwhile, the State Attorney General’s Office (PGJE) has opened the corresponding criminal investigations to identify those responsible and fully clarify the circumstances surrounding these crimes.
