The Mérida City Council announced a massive free spay and neuter clinic for dogs and cats on July 21st, as part of Animal Welfare Month activities and in commemoration of Municipal Sterilization and Animal Welfare Day.
Mayor Cecilia Patrón Laviada reported that 600 surgeries will be performed free of charge during this campaign.
The medical procedures will be divided equally among three sectors of the Yucatecan capital, with 200 surgeries in the west, 200 in the east, and 200 in the south. Specific locations and registration dates will be announced gradually.
In a preliminary report from the local administration, it was detailed that through the mobile spay/neuter program, the municipal clinic, and permanent veterinary clinics, 3,864 sterilizations have been performed in 22 districts and 50 neighborhoods of Mérida.
Due to high demand for this service and limited public budget resources, the municipal authority has set a supplementary goal of two thousand additional sterilizations.
To finance this objective, the presentation of the family musical “An Invisible World,” produced by the civil organization Rescatines and inspired by the municipal program “From the Street to the Heart,” was announced.
The performance will take place on September 12 at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium of the La Isla Mérida shopping center.
All proceeds from ticket sales will be used entirely to cover the costs of supplies and the operation of the surgeries targeted by the municipality.
Tickets for this event will have a price range from 150 to 350 pesos, and will be available through the digital platform tusboletos.mx, as well as at physical points of sale located in the Armando Manzanero Theater, the Plaza La Isla auditorium and the Redicom establishment.
