On the night of July 11, an armed group raided the Ku Maloob Zaap complex—specifically the KU-H Pumping Platform—where they stole various pieces of equipment and robbed workers of their wallets and cell phones.
The suspected maritime pirates took advantage of bad weather caused by Tropical Wave No. 17 to enter the facility heavily armed; once inside, they vandalized work areas and stole Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) units and firefighting gear—items of high economic value that are vital for operational safety.
Upon detecting the intruders, on-duty personnel triggered emergency alarms, causing the criminals to flee immediately. No injuries were reported among the workers, who are employed by the company Cotemar.
According to official information, the platform in question handles the separation of crude oil and gas and sends the processed oil to other processing centers within the Ku Maloob Zaap complex.
Ciudad del Carmen remains a primary target for these maritime “pirates.” On July 3, they entered the facilities of the oil company Baker Hughes—located on the Carmen–Puerto Real highway at kilometer marker 14+300—where they threatened on-duty workers and stole cell phones, wallets, cash, and SCBA equipment.
One employee managed to alert the authorities while the robbery was still in progress, prompting a response from Municipal Police, State Police, and Navy personnel.
Upon noticing the arrival of law enforcement, the suspects fled via the beach area, abandoning some of the stolen equipment during their escape. None of the individuals involved in these robberies have been arrested.
