The mayor of San Miguel de Allende, Mauricio Trejo, asserted that the municipality maintains a model of integration between the local population and the foreign community. Furthermore, he denied the existence of a gentrification process in the city.
The mayor also reported that 16,000 U.S. citizens reside permanently in San Miguel de Allende. He affirmed that their presence fosters social cohesion and does not displace local families.
In his remarks, Trejo stated: “There is no gentrification here; we have 16,000 Americans living permanently in San Miguel de Allende who, far from displacing locals, blend in with the culture and integrate into society.”
Additionally, the mayor highlighted that tourism drives 87% of the local economy, noting that the interaction between residents and visitors has fueled the municipality’s economic growth and development.
Finally, Mauricio Trejo reiterated that San Miguel de Allende stands as an example of cultural integration, where the foreign community and local population coexist, share traditions, and contribute to the development of one of Mexico’s premier tourist destinations.
