The Government of Tamaulipas strengthened its security strategy along the northern border with the inauguration of four Secure Stations on La Ribereña Highway, infrastructure designed to reinforce surveillance, improve mobility, and provide greater protection for those traveling along this strategic route for trade and connectivity with the United States.

During the inauguration of the Valadeces Secure Station, Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya emphasized that these actions are part of a coordinated effort among the three levels of government to contribute to security along the shared border with the United States. He stated:

“The President, during La Mañanera del Pueblo, stated that there cannot be a secure border unless both sides of the border work together. Based on that conviction, Tamaulipas is doing its part, and in particular, surveillance and safe mobility along La Ribereña are part of a joint effort involving the federal government, the state, and the municipalities along the border.”

Security Measures Along the Border Region

The four newly inaugurated stations represent an investment of 223 million pesos and constitute the first phase of a project that includes the construction of 15 facilities distributed along this highway, which runs parallel to the Rio Grande (Río Bravo), providing special attention to this section of the border region.

While continuing his working tour of the border and after leading the Peacebuilding Coordination Meeting at the C5 Center in Reynosa, Villarreal Anaya emphasized that institutional coordination is one of the pillars of the national security strategy promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum.

He explained that Tamaulipas has strengthened a comprehensive strategy based on reinforcing the State Guard, maintaining permanent attention through the Peacebuilding Coordination Meetings, incorporating technology, and expanding infrastructure to increase the operational presence throughout the state.

Referring to the network of Secure Stations, Villarreal Anaya explained that these facilities will strengthen surveillance and provide immediate assistance to highway users.

“These four stations represent the first phase of 15 stations: Reynosa Norte, another near Miguel Alemán, the one where we are today, and the one in Camargo, which, incidentally, President Claudia Sheinbaum visited in January of this year while it was under construction, when we traveled together along this highway from Reynosa to Nuevo Laredo.”

The governor indicated that, in addition to stations located every 50 kilometers on different sections of the state’s highway network, stations along La Ribereña Highway will be installed approximately every 25 kilometers to strengthen security, facilitate transportation, and support commercial activities throughout this border region.

“Playing a decisive role is the construction of the Secure Stations distributed along the state’s highways, in some areas every 50 kilometers, and as already mentioned here, along La Ribereña Highway, one every 25 kilometers, to improve transportation opportunities and commerce.”

Foundation Stone Laid for a New Secure Station in Reynosa

Later in the day, the governor laid the foundation stone for a new Secure Station in the Laguna Escondida sector of Reynosa, continuing the expansion of this infrastructure.

“The goal is to ensure that every kilometer of the highway is monitored, that the population receives assistance, and that security deployment is practically permanent. All of this is intended to provide an increasingly better quality of life and greater opportunities for everyone living in this great nation, Mexico, and in this great territory, Tamaulipas.”

He reiterated that the objective is to maintain a permanent presence of security forces along the state’s main transportation routes.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of Public Works, Pedro Cepeda, reported that each Secure Station was built on 2,500-square-meter lots and includes 536 square meters of construction. Each facility features areas for assisting highway users, office space, accommodations for security personnel, and physical training areas, as part of the project to expand the permanent institutional presence along the Tamaulipas border.

During the event, Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya was accompanied by Díaz Ordaz Mayor Nataly García Díaz, Acting Commander of the Fourth Military Region Rubén Darío Díaz Esparza, Secretary of Security Carlos Arturo Pancardo, Secretary General of Government Héctor Joel Villegas González, as well as commanders from the National Guard and other civilian authorities.
