A foreign tourist drowned due to strong waves caused by a groundswell on Tuesday afternoon at La Ropa Beach in this municipality.
The incident occurred around 4:00 p.m., near the Thompson Hotel.
It was reported that the 74-year-old woman—a U.S. national identified as Joan N.—entered the water but was unable to make it back out alive after a few minutes.
Local rescuers brought her to the shore, but she showed no signs of life.
The victim’s body was covered with a sheet, and the area was cordoned off by police.
