The Gran Golden Parnassus hotel in Cancún will be auctioned off to cover outstanding debts to its workers, after a judge issued a final ruling following the expiration of the 15-day period the company had to file an appeal.

The state secretary of the CROC union, Martín de la Cruz, reported that the ruling is final and stated that this is the first case of its kind in Quintana Roo, where a hotel will be auctioned off to guarantee payment of labor obligations.

He explained that the next step will be for the Labor Court to register the ruling with the Public Registry of Property, after which the auction process will begin, a process he estimated could start in less than a week.

The union leader indicated that the union sought to reach an agreement with the Ornelaz family, owners of the hotel, to establish a payment schedule; however, after the ruling in favor of the workers, the company did not file an appeal within the legal timeframe, so the sentence became final.

He recalled that in September 2025, more than 240 workers began an indefinite work stoppage due to the non-payment of benefits, including savings funds, a portion of tips, withheld wages, and food vouchers.

Martín de la Cruz indicated that the outstanding wages currently amount to between 30 and 40 million pesos, a figure that continues to rise. He specified that, according to the law, the workers have priority in collecting these payments over any other creditor, and therefore called on those who filed individual lawsuits to join the collective action to access the benefits of the legal process.

He also ruled out the CROC’s participation in the auction of the property or the workers forming a cooperative to acquire and manage the hotel, stating that the objective is to recover the wages and benefits owed.

The union leader recalled that the hotel closed its doors before the strike began and described the proceedings as unusual, since, despite initial overtures to the union, company representatives stopped appearing during the trial and even failed to appeal the verdict.

Experts estimate the value of the Gran Golden Parnassus at around $120 million.
