The sea of Puerto Escondido will no longer be a distant dream for thousands of elderly people from the Oaxaca Valley. Through the initiative “Raíces Viajeras (Xcú riza’)”, older adults with limited resources or those belonging to vulnerable groups will travel with all expenses covered to the Pacific coast to enjoy days of recreation, relaxation, and social interaction.
The initiative, promoted by the State Tourism Secretariat in partnership with the Oaxaca DIF System, seeks to transform tourism into a tool for social inclusion and justice for those who have dedicated their lives to work and their families, recognizing leisure and recreation as a fundamental right during old age.

The first phase of the project aims to benefit more than 1,000 senior citizens from 15 municipalities in the metropolitan area and the Central Valleys of Oaxaca.
