Forensic and investigative personnel from the Sinaloa State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) carried out a search warrant-style forensic inspection inside the bar where, on the night of Monday, August 3, a couple of tourists from Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, were abducted. The victims were found several hours later with injuries after being robbed of 10,000 pesos.
A unit from the Forensic Investigation Directorate, accompanied by two Investigative Police patrol vehicles and protected by officers from the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), arrived at the bar located on Camarón-Sábalo Avenue to begin the investigative procedures.
The investigation proceeds automatically, according to the FGE
Investigators from the FGE stated that the victims are not required to file a formal complaint, as this type of crime is prosecuted ex officio, meaning authorities are obligated to investigate regardless of whether a complaint is filed.
According to unofficial reports, forensic personnel inspected several areas of the nightclub and reviewed footage from the security cameras. Investigators were reportedly provided with a copy of the recordings to continue the investigation.
Couple of tourists abducted on the night of August 3
According to earlier reports, the tourists from Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, were forced out of the bar by three armed men and taken against their will.
In the early hours of Tuesday, August 4, a driver assisted the couple after finding them walking along Del Delfín Avenue, near the Mazatlán Convention Center. Seeing that they had been beaten, the driver alerted authorities. Officers from the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) and paramedics responded to the scene.
Victims were assaulted and forced to transfer money
The couple told authorities that they were physically assaulted and forced to make a bank transfer of 10,000 pesos in exchange for their release.
After receiving first aid at the scene, they were transported by paramedics to a hospital, where they remained under medical care.
The State Attorney General’s Office stated that investigators will analyze the evidence collected during the forensic inspection of the business but did not disclose whether any irregularities were found.
