Stickers have begun to occupy more and more spaces throughout Hidalgo, enriching the street art landscape with proposals that combine illustration, design, and identity. This form of expression does not seek to replace graffiti, murals, or paste-up art, but rather to add new forms of artistic intervention in public spaces.
For urban artist @koga.n.ko, her interest began when she noticed stickers during her daily walks. Her curiosity about who was putting them up and the stories behind each piece sparked her interest, eventually leading her to become a creator approximately a year and a half ago.
Stickers and the Creation of Community
koga.n.ko pointed out that the community is much larger than many people imagine. It includes artists who also practice graffiti, muralism, and paste-up art, as well as people whose professions are completely unrelated to urban art.
Illustrator Gerry Gamaliel (@bones_of_dead120) explained that he began putting up stickers in December 2025, although he had already been intervening in the streets with illustrations before then. According to him, the format allowed him to reproduce his work more easily without losing the essence of his drawings.
The artist emphasized that stickers have their own identity because they can communicate emotions or ideas from small spaces. Once they are placed around the city, they no longer belong exclusively to their creator and instead become part of the everyday landscape.
Gamaliel considered that the community maintains a broad network of connections through social media, events, and exchanges.
Stickers Through the Years in Hidalgo
For the creator known as @espollitomiamor, one of the longest-standing figures in Hidalgo’s sticker scene, the desire to leave a personal mark on the city inspired the beginning of his project. His first stickers appeared on the streets on June 20, 2007.
Espollitomiamor explained that artists with decades of experience now coexist with children as young as 10 or 11 who are beginning to create with the support of their families. From his perspective, this diversity has strengthened the community and encouraged a family-oriented environment.
Rather than competing with other urban art disciplines, stickers have expanded the possibilities for artistic intervention in Hidalgo. Their presence turns poles, signs, and walls into small open-air galleries where each piece adds a new story to the city’s landscape.
The Art of Expressing Ideas Through Stickers
Urban artist @s_p_o_o_k_y_ believes that sticker art allows creators to express ideas and leave a record of their presence in the city. She explained that one of its main attractions lies in the mystery generated by the stickers, which can suddenly appear from one day to the next and spark the curiosity of those who discover them.
Regarding the growth of this urban art form, @s_p_o_o_k_y_ stated that her main motivation is to communicate ideas and leave small traces throughout the city, while observing how people react when they discover her designs, photograph them, or search for them on social media.
Finally, she encouraged those who want to get started in this discipline to experiment without fear, develop their own identity, learn about the history of sticker art, and participate in the community while respecting public spaces and the people who inhabit them.
