Oaxaca’s rich cultural heritage was proudly showcased in the municipality of San Mateo Río Hondo during the celebration of the Guelaguetza Ni Wan do’o, an event that brought together nine communities to share music, dance, traditional attire, and various expressions of their collective identity.
The festivities held in the Sierra Sur region served as a gathering point where traditions from three distinct areas of the state converged: the Sierra Sur, the Central Valleys, and the Coast. Throughout the jornada, attendees witnessed the profound cultural diversity that characterizes the state and cements its status as a premier cultural hub.
The event was led by the representative of the Centéotl Goddess, Enid Azucena Torres Agustiniano, who reaffirmed that the roots of the state remain vibrant and solidify its position as the Cultural Heart of Mexico. Her participation symbolized the enduring bond between communities and their ancestral heritage, highlighting how Oaxacan culture is continuously shared and renewed across generations.
Participating delegations traveled from various localities to display the full scope of regional traditional expressions. Representing the Sierra Sur were San Carlos Yautepec, the Heroic City of Miahuatlán de Porfirio Díaz, San Pedro Amuzgos, and Villa Sola de Vega. The Central Valleys were represented by San Bartolo Coyotepec and the Heroic City of Ejutla de Crespo, while Santa Catarina Juquila, San Agustín Loxicha, and San Pedro Pochutla participated from the Coast. Each community contributed its own distinct melodies, traditional dances, and native garments passed down through generations.
