The Mexican Government announced that a total of 36 Mexican nationals who were in Colombia at the time of the earthquake that occurred on Monday arrived in Mexico this Thursday aboard a Mexican Air Force aircraft at Felipe Ángeles International Airport.
36 Mexican Nationals Evacuated from Colombia Return to Mexico
Early Thursday morning, an C-130 Hercules aircraft arriving from Matecaña Airport in the city of Pereira successfully landed in Mexico carrying 36 people who had been in the South American country under extremely vulnerable conditions following the severe damage caused by the earthquake that occurred on August 10.
This group of Mexican citizens was accompanied at all times by specialized personnel from the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs (SRE) and the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena). Authorities confirmed that all repatriated individuals are safe, protected, and in good health.
The aircraft landed punctually at 12:30 a.m. at the Santa Lucía Military Air Base in the State of Mexico, using one of the strategic transport aircraft belonging to the Mexican Air Force (FAM) that had previously departed with humanitarian aid for the South American nation.
Diplomatic Coordination and Institutional Appreciation
As part of this successful relief mission, Secretary of Foreign Affairs Roberto Velasco expressed the government’s recognition and institutional appreciation to the Colombian Foreign Ministry for all the diplomatic efforts, logistical assistance, and support provided to ensure the safe return of the affected Mexican families.
