A clandestine facility dedicated to the illegal storage and distribution of LP gas, operating under the façade of a commercial establishment displaying the slogan “100% service for your benefit” and a rooster logo, was raided by federal authorities and the National Guard in the municipality of José Azueta, Veracruz.
According to information from El Diario mx, the operation was carried out near kilometer 43+500 of the Sayula de Alemán–Ciudad Alemán highway. At the site, authorities detected specialized infrastructure for the transfer of energy products, including dispensing pumps, a transport tanker truck, and, preliminarily, an arsenal consisting of firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.
So far, federal and state authorities have not issued an official report specifying the exact volume of fuel seized or providing details about the weapons.
Theft involving more than 250 tanker trucks documented
The seizure comes just days after authorities discovered another illegal storage facility in Coatepec, Veracruz, and adds to investigations led by the Attorney General’s Office in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, where a large-scale hydrocarbon processing and storage network is being investigated.
The smuggling of energy products has also evolved to include the cloning of vehicles and the use of corporate fronts to market gas stolen from Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex).
Gas-sector organizations have documented the theft of more than 250 tanker trucks and delivery vehicles in Puebla since 2017. Likewise, these types of clandestine operations continue to place the civilian population at constant risk, as occurred in early June in Puebla’s fuel-theft corridor, where more than 1,700 students were evacuated in an emergency following an explosion at an irregular warehouse. The incident sparked outrage among local residents over the alleged tolerance of the authorities.
