We received a report from the vicinity of the Central de Abastos (Mexico City’s wholesale market). A fellow truck driver was forced to pull over onto the side of the road after his vehicle suffered a mechanical failure.
Despite not committing any infraction or crime, officers from the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) approached the scene. Instead of providing roadside assistance or helping with traffic flow, the officers proceeded to intimidate and arbitrarily detain the driver, under the unfounded pretext that he was consuming alcoholic beverages.
