Dorheny García Cayetano, Morena State Representative in Veracruz, Denies Receiving “Kickbacks” from Her Employees in the State Congress
Dorheny García Cayetano, a Morena state representative in Veracruz, denied receiving “kickbacks” from her employees in the State Congress, after being accused by José Alberto Flores Hernández, a former employee.
She said that she is even considering taking legal action against her former employee, insisting that all of the allegations made publicly against her are complete lies.
She added that she does not directly handle money, so she cannot be connected to alleged shortfalls in the payment of an employee’s salary, and therefore the Comptroller’s Office should investigate the matter directly.
“The truth is that I am unaware of the accusation. I do not have access to public funds. I understand that the Comptroller’s Office should investigate if he was not receiving his full biweekly salary. He will have to prove it, and if not, we have the right to take legal action for moral damages,” she said in an interview.
She considered that the allegations may be related to the fact that during his final days of employment, Flores Hernández failed to return photographic equipment that had been under his responsibility and which is worth more than 60,000 pesos.
She explained that the former employee was responsible for a camera, batteries, and microphones, which he reportedly no longer had in his possession after attending a celebration following a World Cup soccer match.
She pointed out that legal action could also be taken over the failure to return the work equipment, stating that payments are still being made because the equipment was purchased on credit due to its high cost.
“I have not spoken with him again; I am still waiting for him to respond regarding the equipment. I imagine that because it is very expensive, he is trying to reverse the situation, (…) I am thinking about how to proceed regarding the missing equipment,” she commented.
She added that it cannot be ruled out that the allegations may have political motives and could come from the opposition; however, she warned that because they are allegedly false, they could have consequences.
