Sonora’s manufacturing industry maintains a positive trend, recording annual growth of 2.4 percent during April 2026, according to the results of the Monthly Indicator of Industrial Activity by Federal Entity (IMAIEF) from INEGI.

Within this sector, the progress of advanced manufacturing stands out, growing 2.1 percent annually and significantly increasing its share of the state’s economy.

While in 2021 high-tech manufacturing activities represented 17.5 percent of Sonora’s economy, by the first quarter of 2026 their share had reached 22.5 percent, according to INEGI figures.

Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño attributed these results to the strengthening of industrial infrastructure, the arrival of new investments, and the strategy to take advantage of Sonora’s competitive advantages.

“We are strengthening our infrastructure, attracting investment, and preparing the state to participate in the industries of the future, generating more opportunities for the people of Sonora,” he stated.

Advanced manufacturing includes activities that require technology, specialized processes, and highly trained personnel, such as the manufacturing of electronic components, specialized equipment, and products intended for higher value-added industries.

Through the Sonora Plan, the State Government seeks to take advantage of factors such as its border location, proximity to Arizona, and the state’s export-oriented profile to promote sectors such as semiconductors and high-tech manufacturing.

The growth of the manufacturing sector thus adds to the strategy of expanding Sonora’s participation in new production chains and strengthening its position as an industrial and export platform.
