Three civilians died and a teenager was injured following an armed confrontation between alleged civilians and personnel from the Secretariat of National Defense, which took place on the La Piedad-Zamora highway, in the municipality of La Piedad, Michoacán.
According to information provided by the Michoacán Public Security Secretariat, the exchange of gunfire occurred on this major roadway, prompting a mobilization of security forces to control and secure the area.
Three civilians died following the confrontation
Following the clash, authorities located the bodies of three men at the scene, who allegedly participated in the confrontation. So far, the identities of those who died have not been officially released.
During the incident, an approximately 16-year-old teenager was injured. After receiving first aid, he was transferred to the La Piedad Regional Hospital, where he remained under medical care.
Authorities have not yet specified the teenager’s medical condition or reported whether he was directly involved in the confrontation or the specific circumstances under which he was injured.
Authorities seize assault rifles and a grenade launcher

Following the confrontation, security forces conducted an inspection of the area and located various pieces of evidence related to the incident.
Among the items seized were four assault rifles, a grenade launcher, several tactical vests, magazines and ammunition, as well as a dark gray Renault vehicle.
The seized weapons were placed at the disposal of the appropriate authorities, who will determine whether they were involved in other criminal incidents reported in the region.
The presence of tactical equipment and high-powered weapons will form part of the investigation being conducted by prosecutors to fully establish the circumstances surrounding the confrontation.
Michoacán Prosecutor’s Office investigates the incident
Following the confrontation, the area remained under the authorities’ control in order to preserve evidence and prevent it from being altered or removed before specialized personnel arrived.
Personnel from the Michoacán State Attorney General’s Office carried out the corresponding procedures at the scene, including processing the area and recovering the bodies.
The remains were transferred for the corresponding forensic examinations, while authorities are expected to later establish the identities of the victims and make progress in clarifying the events.
So far, state authorities have not reported what caused the confrontation or provided further details regarding the identities or possible criminal group affiliation of the civilians who died.
The investigation will continue to determine how the shooting began, establish the participation of each person involved, and determine the circumstances under which the teenager was injured.
The incident occurred on a major highway connecting La Piedad and Zamora, which is an important route for communication between the two municipalities. Authorities therefore maintained a presence at the scene while forensic procedures were carried out.
