The hits of Juan Gabriel and José José will be performed in a rock version as part of a free concert in Mexico City’s Historic Center.

Enjoy the songs of two of the most important artists in Mexican popular music in a single concert! Juan Gabriel and José José will be brought back to life through a tribute at the Palacio Postal in Mexico City. And the best part is that admission will be free.

The event will take place as part of the tenth anniversary of the death of the “Divo de Juárez,” who passed away on August 28, 2016.

Meanwhile, the “Prince of Song” died three years later. Next September 28 will mark seven years since his death.

However, both artists live on through their music, which remains a staple at parties, gatherings, and all kinds of occasions.

This is what the Juan Gabriel and José José tribute concert will be like

The band in charge of bringing the songs of Juan Gabriel and José José to life will be Morfeo, a group known for performing covers in rock, blues, and jazz versions.

“It will be a great show. We’re going to rock out to the fullest. It will be a great day to sing and shout along to the rhythm of two great figures of Mexican music,” the band posted through its official social media accounts.

Get ready to sing along to rock versions of songs by the “Divo de Juárez,” including “Hasta que te conocí,” “Así fue,” “Abrázame muy fuerte,” “Querida,” “Yo no nací para amar,” “Si quieres,” “Ya lo sé que tú te vas,” and “El Noa-Noa.”

Of course, the repertoire will also include classics by the “Prince of Song,” such as “El triste,” “Almohada,” “Gavilán o paloma,” “Lo pasado pasado,” “40 y 20,” “La nave del olvido,” “Preso,” “Volcán,” “He renunciado a ti,” “Lo dudo,” and “Vamos a darle tiempo al tiempo.”

When and where?

The concert will take place on Wednesday, August 26, at the Palacio Postal, located at 1 Tacuba Street, on the corner with Eje Central, in Mexico City’s Historic Center.

The closest public transportation stations are Bellas Artes on Lines 2 and 8, as well as Allende on Line 2. You can also take Trolebús Line 1 and get off at Bellas Artes.

The event begins at 6:00 p.m. and will take place as part of Noche de Museos, an initiative by Mexico City’s Ministry of Culture in which several cultural venues across the capital open their doors during evening hours and organize activities such as dances, concerts, and theater or film screenings.

Additionally, visitors to the Palacio Postal can purchase one of the commemorative Juan Gabriel stamps.

Only 300,000 stamps were printed, and they can be purchased for $7.50 at post offices throughout the country, including the Palacio Postal.

The image used on the commemorative stamp comes from a photograph taken during the recording sessions for Recuerdos II, one of the best-selling albums in history, which includes the famous song “Querida.”
