Querétaro’s public transportation system grew from 457 units to 1,000 buses during the first five years of the state administration, as part of the strategy to renew and expand the fleet, reported Gerardo Cuanalo Santos.
The director of the State Mobility Agency highlighted that one of the main changes was the acquisition, for the first time, of 400 units directly by the Government of Querétaro.
These buses are owned by the state government and are operated through a public-private company scheme, according to information presented during the announcement of mobility results.
Cuanalo Santos emphasized that the units acquired feature high-efficiency technology and accessibility features for older adults and people with visual disabilities.
They were also designed with features aimed at reducing pollutant emissions, as part of the renewal of the fleet currently providing the service.
The growth was reflected not only in the number of buses available, but also in the capacity of the units, a factor that, according to the official, made it possible to respond to the increase in demand for public transportation.
Alongside the incorporation of new units, approximately 90 percent of the fleet currently operating in the state was renewed.
Cuanalo Santos said that expanding capacity has been necessary due to the sustained growth in the number of users and the expansion of the system’s coverage.
