State Authorities Maintain Attention on Communities in the Sierra, Including Guadalupe y Calvo and Guachochi, Where Population Movements Have Been Reported Amid Violence and the Presence of Armed Groups
The security situation affecting other states in the northern part of the country has had direct repercussions in Chihuahua, where the movement of criminal and armed groups has contributed to creating conditions of forced displacement in different regions of the state.
This was stated by Luis Ángel Aguirre Rodríguez, undersecretary of the State General Staff, who explained that authorities have identified communities in the Sierra where reports have emerged of families temporarily abandoning their places of origin due to incidents related to violence.
Among the areas where authorities have maintained attention are communities in Guadalupe y Calvo, Guachochi, and other locations in the western part of the state, where various agencies are working to maintain a presence and provide support to affected people.
The official indicated that, in some cases, the displacements result in the sudden arrival of large groups of people in cities such as Parral, Chihuahua, and Cuauhtémoc, a situation that forces state agencies and security forces to activate special operations.
“We have to carry out some special operations to safely return these people and maintain a permanent presence in those areas,” Aguirre Rodríguez explained when referring to the assistance provided when population movements are detected.
He added that the security situation in Sinaloa has been one of the factors that has had the greatest influence on the movement of armed groups across a broad region encompassing areas of Durango, Sonora, and Chihuahua, due to the proximity and territorial connections among these states.
“Without a doubt, it has been one of the factors that has caused the movement and mobilization of armed groups throughout the Sierra of Durango, Sinaloa, Sonora, and Chihuahua,” the undersecretary stated, emphasizing that these movements can also lead to criminal-group members moving into other regions.
Given this situation, he said, the State Government maintains coordination among the Secretariat of Public Security, Coesvi, Victim Assistance, and other agencies to address detected cases and prevent the population from being exposed to risky situations again. “When cases are detected, they are addressed immediately,” he affirmed.
