“We are not exceeding 30 percent in the heavy machinery sector; we are talking about 25 to 30 percent equipment utilization. And, well, we are looking for alternatives in neighboring states and particularly in the area of private investment,” acknowledged Fernando Castro, president of the Association of Heavy Machinery Industrialists of the State of Durango (AIMPED).
In response, he reported that this 70 percent underutilization has generated unemployment in the sector.
“Among us, we have 25 heavy machinery members, and we have around 500 vacant positions for that reason,” he lamented.
And although hope remains for the final months of the year, no extraordinary increase in activity is expected.
“Fortunately, there is some hope from the State Government through invitations to participate in small tenders, but they are small incentives to get through the year, and I think that something is better than nothing, so we have to make the most of it. It is not, and I say this positively, everything we would like; it does not meet the demand we have, but it is good. Fortunately, we also have the support and efforts of the president of the Mexican Chamber, Accountant Ciseña, who supports us in every way he can,” he stated.
