Jalisco will have a third international airport in Chalacatepec

According to the SIOP, if the local Congress approves the 2024 budget, the state will have 8,995 million pesos to conclude strategic infrastructure projects.
If the local Congress approves the budget sent by the state Executive for 2024, Jalisco will have 8,995 million pesos for public works, resources that will be used to conclude infrastructure projects considered “strategic” for the state, among them, line 4 of the light rail, road works and the Chalacatepec airport.

“We are in the review stage with the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), with the fulfillment of requirements so that the runway can have airport operation,” confirmed to El Economista, the Chief of Staff of the government of Jalisco, Hugo. Luna.

Interviewed within the framework of the Plenary session of the Mexican Chamber of the Construction Industry (CMIC), Jalisco delegation, Luna Vázquez anticipated that the new airport will be able to begin operations in the first half of next year.

“We finished the missing part of the investment in infrastructure approximately three weeks ago, and right now we are fine-tuning the details and, if necessary, the actions established by the SICT,” the official said.

He explained that the bet is to have a third international airport—in addition to the Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta terminals—although, he said, it will have a gradual development that will depend on how the market grows in the area of influence of the Costalegre de Jalisco.

“It is a 2.7 kilometer long runway that can receive planes that fly sections of up to six hours away; That is, we could be flying to Canada without any problem,” stressed the Chief of Staff.

Historical budget
Through a video message, Governor Enrique Alfaro stated that in the five years of the current administration, Jalisco has invested 100,000 million pesos in infrastructure works, a figure that, he said, “has never been seen in a six-year period with resources.”

For his part, the head of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Works (SIOP), David Zamora Bueno, explained that the Expenditure budget that is in Congress for approval, contemplates, removing direct expenses, 8,995 million pesos with the which priority will be given to completing the strategic projects that are already under construction.
The official explained that one of these projects is line 4 of the light rail, which registers a progress of 34% and the projection is that it will be completed and in operation next year, before the current administration ends.

“We consider that we are on time, next month the first pieces of the rail will begin to arrive, as well as concrete sleepers,” he stated.
