Faced with the shortage of truck drivers, strategies are implemented such as professionalization programs in association with Cecati and Conalep, as well as the hiring of more women.
Compared to last year, the deficit increased by 6,000 jobs.
The conjunction of trends such as nearshoring and post-pandemic commercial reactivation, with e-commerce leading the way, has generated excess demand in the transportation industry. However, this boom encounters a significant obstacle: Mexico will close the year with a deficit of 60,000 truck drivers.
In the latest official report provided by the International Road Transport Union (IRU), corresponding to 2022, a shortage of 54,000 drivers in the country was noted. The National Association of Private Transportation (ANTP) estimates that this figure could have increased by the end of this year. Factors such as insecurity and the lack of attractiveness among new generations towards driving are determining factors in this deficit.
