Expats look for the best cities to live

In Latin America, Mexico City is the only one that appears in the classification, positioning itself as the seventh favorite of expatriates worldwide.

For 89% of respondents, the inhabitants of Malaga are very friendly towards foreign residents.

Living in a country as an expat may not be the best experience for a person or family. And when trying to answer, what are the best cities worldwide in which you can combine work and personal life as an expatriate? InterNations took on the task of surveying more than 12,000 foreigners to classify 49 cities in the world.

For this 2023 list, Malaga, Spain, occupies first place, holding this year the title of best city to live as an expatriate. It was the city best rated for local friendliness, with 89% of respondents commenting that Malaga residents are especially friendly towards foreign residents.

It is not surprising that this beautiful city where Picasso was born also occupies second position worldwide in the quality of life index. Something that the publication especially highlights about Malaga is its climate, its natural environment and its various leisure options.

Alicante, Spain, is a very attractive city for expats.

Two other Spanish cities complete the Top 3, Alicante and Valencia, in second and third place, respectively. According to the results of the publication, Alicante stands out for its housing affordability, while Valencia was chosen for the healthcare it offers.

Within the top 10 positions on the list, there is another Spanish city, it is Madrid, which occupies sixth position. In the first 10 places of the classification, Latin America is also represented, with Mexico City positioned as the seventh favorite of expatriates worldwide.

It is worth mentioning that there were 12,65 expatriates surveyed by the online firm of international workers, and 49 cities analyzed by quality of life, ease of settling in, working abroad, personal finances and essential aspects for an expatriate, mainly.
