Los Cabos, Baja California Sur.- With great excitement, tourists and residents welcomed the new year with the successful show “Médano Beach Drone Show 2024” that illuminated the sky of Cabo San Lucas bay with figures alluding to Los Cabos, thus welcoming the new year.
At 11:59 pm on December 31, 2023, more than two hundred drones took off from El Médano beach to create in the sky of the bay figures such as the iconic stone arch of Cabo San Lucas, a manta ray, jellyfish, a Mexican flag, fiction characters like baby Yoda, a UFO, words like “Los Cabos” and “El Médano” and the numbers 2023 and 2024.
The figures in the sky were visualized one by one, for a period of about eight continuous minutes, at the same time some rockets were seen from some of the commercial properties.
The drone show was organized by the Association of Entrepreneurs of El Médano for the community of Cabo, as it has become a tradition and meeting point to welcome the new year, as well as being an attraction for their guests and diners in the area.
In addition to the diners and guests of the commercial establishments on El Médano beach, the show was seen by thousands of people who crowded the beach, on board of boats on the bay of Cabo San Lucas, as well as from the two bridges at the entrance to the port on the transpeninsular highway, hills and some streets and avenues in the downtown area.
During the first minutes that were lived with great emotion, bottles of champagne, wines were opened, but above all the attendees were seen giving each other the hug of happy new year and offering their best wishes.
“For two years this show has been taking place, but every year new technologies are being used with the aim of contributing to the environment and taking care of those groups of people who have some kind of motor sensitivity, people with different abilities and in the issue of pets that are also affected by the sound of the explosions caused by pyrotechnics,” said Adrián Luna, president of the Association of Entrepreneurs of El Médano.
Last year the show was mixed, first there was pyrotechnics and then a show with 80 drones.
Each year, after the show, exceptional photographs circulate through social networks that attest to the incredible show. This time and to reward the best shots of the drone show, the Association of Entrepreneurs of El Médano launched a photography contest.
Among the requirements is that you must send an email to [email protected] before 8:00 pm on January 2, 2024, attaching the author’s name, where it was captured and date. There are two categories, in the “A” the images captured in the bay and in the “B”, from any location other than the bay or the beach.
Each participant can send a maximum of one photograph. The images must be original, not have been previously published, nor be composition.
Five photographs will be awarded per category. The winners will be announced on January 6 through the social networks of playamedano.ac on Instagram and Empresarios playa El Médano, A.C. on Facebook
The winners will be entitled to a breakfast for two people, in one of the partner or sponsor restaurants of the event.
