Robbery in Chiapas Ends in Shootout; Foreign Woman Dies; 2 Injured

The assault on an ADO-GL bus line left one Guatemalan woman dead and two passengers injured, as well as one criminal detained on the Arriaga to Ocozocuautla highway stretch, near Rancho Bonito, Jiquipilas municipality, in Chiapas, during the early hours of yesterday.

According to passengers, the bus left Tuxtla Gutiérrez, bound for Tapachula, and upon reaching the second toll booth, they were pursued by armed individuals intending to rob them.

At some point, the thieves managed to board the bus. There, two people were injured: Adriana, 39 years old, who received a blow to the head, and Gregorio, 30 years old, who was shot in the abdomen.

It is presumed that toll booth personnel noticed what happened and alerted the authorities.

As a result, the military caught up with the bus at km 28 of the toll road, triggering a shootout between the criminals and the soldiers.

The robbers forced the bus driver to block the road with the vehicle and used it as a shield.

During the skirmish, a woman from Guatemala was shot and died.

Subsequently, forensic agents took charge of lifting the body of the victim for transfer to the coroner. Meanwhile, the injured were transported to a hospital in Ocozocoautla.

During the criminal act, the road was closed to traffic, and several buses gathered at the site. It was not until dawn that the passage was opened in both directions.

The state prosecutor’s office confirmed that one person was detained for their alleged responsibility in the crime of aggravated homicide, committed against a woman (currently of unknown identity) and for the events that occurred on the Jiquipilas-Rancho Bonito highway stretch.

On April 12, around 03:30 hours, an assault on an OCC bus line was recorded at km 21 of the municipality of Ocozocoautla, coming from Tuxtla Gutiérrez.

The incident occurred one kilometer from the Tierra y Libertad crossroads in the municipality of Jiquipilas.

The heavily armed assailants stripped the passengers of their belongings. From that incident, three injuries were reported.
