The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) of Chiapas confirmed the beginning of an investigation folder into the death of 11 people found in the Morelia community, located in the municipality of Chicomuselo. It should be noted that the area is in dispute by the criminal groups Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and Sinaloa Cartel.
It was during a statement shared on Tuesday, May 14, that the Chiapas authorities began proceedings against whoever or whoever is responsible for the homicides that occurred “in the last few hours in the Morelia community.”
“The Interinstitutional Group headed by the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) through the Prosecutor of the Public Ministry of Chicomuselo carried out the removal of the bodies, carrying out a medical examination of them and carrying out the identification procedure of corpses with the next of kin,” it was part of his brief statement on social networks.

In addition, they detailed that with the objective of guaranteeing peace on the site, the Interinstitutional Group carries out patrols to try to find those responsible. So far no people have been arrested.
For their part, sources from the Diocese of San Cristóbal de las Casas indicated to the newspaper Proceso that two of the people who died are related to the Church. Even the source who requested anonymity announced that they could publish a statement on the matter in the coming hours.
In some images shared on social networks, bodies can be seen in the area without the identity of the victims being known so far. Uncorroborated reports indicate that alleged members of the El Maíz organization would have been involved in the violent actions, the latter having been linked to the also called four-letter cartel.

It should be noted that journalistic reports have indicated that in the municipality of Chicomuselo, operations by the CJNG and the Pacific Cartel, the criminal groups with the greatest presence in the country, have been registered.
Apparently, the violent actions that led to the death of 11 people began last Friday. In addition, reports from residents indicate that since last weekend there have been communication problems in Chicomuselo, which, added to the insecurity in the area, has caused people to leave their homes. The process collects testimonies from residents about the presence of modified vehicles, the so-called “monsters.”
On January 23, the Chicomuselo community shared a statement in which they identified the El Maíz cell as a paramilitary group that operates in the municipalities of Frontera Comalapa and Chicomuselo.
“In that region of Chiapas, the Jalisco New Generation Cartel used the strategy of waging war on the Sinaloa Cartel, using people and communities to force the CJNG to have a justification called a social base that gives another face to its war,” shared the Civil Society of Chicomuselo.

Chicomuselo: between criminal groups and the Army
In mid-January, a video circulated in which you can see a discussion between members of the Army and residents of the Ejido Nueva América, in Chicomuselo. In the audiovisual material it can be seen that the civilians oppose the passage of the uniformed men and at least one of the latter points directly at a man and calls those present “cowards.”
“They are blocking the way to authority, it is our duty to recognize everywhere, to provide security to the community, to all of them equally. Which problem? The problem is you cowards, because you are afraid of two or three armed people. Cowards!”, was part of what was expressed by one of the troops.
