The mayor of Mazatlán highlighted that after having started the rainy and hurricane season, the highest risk neighborhoods are under constant monitoring

With the official start of the rainy and hurricane season on May 15, Mazatlán is ready on alert for the possibility of natural phenomena.
Given this, 16 neighborhoods have been identified in the municipality with a greater risk of suffering floods during this period, which extends until November 30, reported Mayor Édgar González Zatarain.
He highlighted that these colonies are under constant monitoring by the municipal authority, and preventive measures have been implemented to minimize possible damage that would require registration in the different areas.
«We are always prepared as an authority, with all the vulnerability that Mazatlán has, we are already prepared even though the period is just beginning. Nowadays we already know the long list of possible storms and hurricanes, the worrying stage begins, it is not only the issue of floods, it is the issue of winds, blackouts and energy difficulties, there are a lot of problems. “The colonies that we have monitored and of greatest concern are 16,” he said.
Cleaning canals and streams
Édgar González highlighted that for several weeks cleaning work has been carried out in canals and streams in order to protect the residents of these vulnerable areas if required.
In addition to flooding in different sectors of the port, they are also attentive to the possible risks associated with strong winds, constant blackouts and the lack of electrical energy by the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), as well as the overflow of drains. .
Likewise, the mayor of Mazatlán called on residents to take precautions and follow the safety recommendations issued by local and state Civil Protection authorities.
