Dengue cases in Zihuatanejo have registered an alarming increase of 60 percent compared to previous years, and it is feared that this figure could increase with the arrival of the rainy season. So far, 156 cases of dengue have been confirmed and there are 345 probable cases in the municipality.

The municipal Health Coordinator of the Guerrero Health Secretariat, Dr. Wendoly Galeana Flores, commented in an interview that the year with the lowest incidence of dengue was 2021, but in 2022 cases increased by 40 percent. From November 2023 to date, the increase has been 60 percent.

The Ministry of Health allocates resources for fumigation and abatement, but the collaboration of the population is crucial to eliminate mosquito breeding sites; without the help of the community, it will be more difficult to combat this disease.

It is necessary to eliminate pots and containers that accumulate water, keep patios and gardens clean, and allow the entry of Health personnel to carry out fumigation and apply abate in homes.
