Conalep students win second place in the National Polka Competition in Sonora

Students from the National College of Technical Professional Education (Conalep), Campus Juárez II, obtained second place in the Youth and Adult categories during the 5th National Polka Contest “Y Arriba Sonora”, in the city of Nogales.

The “Kuaukali” folk dance group is made up of 14 dancers (9 women and 5 men), of which 11 of them are Conalep students, two graduates and one new applicant; It is also taught by teachers Diana Cecilia de la Torre Reyes and José Carlos Morales Díaz.

“Kuaukali” means “The House of the Eagles” in the Ralámuli language, alluding to the representative mascot of the Juárez II Campus, it has been formed for just over two years.

After these triumphs, the young people are preparing to participate in the National Polka and Traditional Dance Competition “Paso del Norte”, which will take place on May 25 and 26, at the Gymnasium of the Colegio de Bachilleres in Ciudad Juarez.

The dance group will participate with four couples in the polka modality, which covers the six known styles of polka, which are those of Chihuahua, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, Sonora, Durango and Coahuila; in addition to the traditional dance modality in the group category, with the matachines dance.

The objective of the participation of Conalep Juárez II is to create a spirit of competition and coexistence in the students.
