The World Economic Forum evaluates 119 nations on security guarantees for their tourists; The country also fares poorly in providing well-paid jobs

Mexico ranks last among 119 nations evaluated in security guarantees for its tourists, according to an analysis carried out by the World Economic Forum.
In the list released by the international organization, the Mexican territory is located in the last position on the list in protection of locals, tourists and businesses, preceded by Mali, Nigeria, Colombia, Cameroon, Venezuela and South Africa, which occupy the places 118 to 113 in the ranking.
Tourist safety is one of 17 variables that the WEF evaluated for the Travel and Tourism Development Index, a list that the organization publishes every 2 years, and whose 2024 version was released this week.
Other variables that the WEF evaluated consider aspects such as the availability of transportation, openness to tourism, availability of telecommunications and the labor market in the tourism sector.
In the 2024 measurement, another of the variables in which Mexico occupies one of the worst places in the world is socioeconomic impact, under which the WEF evaluates the provision of well-paid jobs and gender equality in the workforce. In this aspect, the Mexican tourism industry was in position 100.
Examples to follow
The first places in the world in offering security to locals, tourists and businesses in the WEF Travel Development Index are occupied by Singapore, followed by Qatar and Iceland.
In terms of offers of well-paid jobs, the example to follow are Botswana, Paraguay and Kenya, which occupied the first positions in that order in the international evaluation.
