Cancun represents the main entrance of visitors to the Mayan World for Chiapas, which is why commercial ties are consolidated between various tourism sectors, said Javier Domínguez Andrade, general director of the Municipal Tourism Bureau of Tuxtla Gutiérrez.

During the presentation of attractions and natural beauties of Chiapas destinations in Cancun, the first commercial tour they carried out in the year, they exposed the flow of Quintana Roo residents towards said entity.
Promotion of Chiapas
“Quintanarroans represent 6% of national tourism travelers to Chiapas, that is why we come to inform first-hand with more than 25 companies related to the tourism sector.”
Javier Domínguez Andrade. Municipal Tourism Bureau.
He said that they seek to consolidate commercial ties with hotels, tour operators and local agencies that from Quintana Roo expand their trips to the southeast of the country.
“Chiapas has been growing in new offers, services and experiences, as well as new Magical Towns and new routes such as the Cheese, the Water or the Camino Real, so it is a new vision,” he indicated.
Regarding the Mayan Train, he commented that, as it is a new offer, it takes time to position itself, it is in the initial stage and we hope that it will bring us 10 percent more visitors in the long term.
Hotel offer
He added that the state has more than 24 thousand rooms, and Tuxtla Gutiérrez is the one with the greatest infrastructure with 6,500 hotel rooms. San Cristóbal de las Casas follows, with 5 thousand keys for all types of pockets. In addition, it has a connection with daily flights through two airlines that go from Chiapas to Cancun and vice versa, he explained.
The official stated that so far, no airline has raised its hand for the Tulum airport.
However, it would be a very logical route because tourism in the Riviera Maya closely matches the profile of visitors to that entity.
“In the Mayan World it shares 80% of road tourism, starting from Quintana Roo with a 10-day stay to tour the four southeastern states.”
He explained that that is why it is important to reinforce it through all avenues, since there are three to four million visitors a year.
Unsafety
On the issue of insecurity, Domínguez Andrade acknowledged that “unfortunately we are not saved from these types of events.”
“We are very responsible, if there were no conditions we would not go out to promote outside of Chiapas, and generally the acts of violence occur far from the tourist area.”
