Mazatlán, Sin.- Alonso Puerto Sánchez, owner of Azteca Lightning, a company that signed a contract with the Mazatlán City Council for 400.8 million for the acquisition of 2,139 luminaires, was arrested this day and was placed at the disposal of a state judge for the crime of generic fraud.

Said contract was signed in March 2022 through a direct award, this acquisition was what led to the resignation of former mayor Luis Guillermo Benítez Torres, who was linked to proceedings last year for the crime of irregular performance of public office.

This morning Puerto Sánchez had called the media for a press conference in which he would announce the status of the process of the 60 million pesos that the City Council gave as an advance in April 2022; However, the “Chemist” decided to terminate said document due to alleged non-compliance in September 2022.

However, 15 minutes before the agreed time, the businessman warned that the conference would be canceled, since a medical emergency arose and the topic of the questions could cause him stress.

Timeline

In March 2022, the Mazatlán City Council signed a contract for 400 million 854 thousand 204.50 pesos for the purchase of 2,139 luminaires with the company Azteca Lighting.

A month later, in April, the commune delivered an advance payment as established in the contract for 60 million 129 thousand 630.67 pesos.
In September, the municipality began the process of canceling the contract supposedly due to non-compliance on the part of the lighting company and with it the possibility of recovering the 60 million pesos.

Later, it emerged that Azteca Lighting would sue the city council for grossly violating this million-dollar contract.

By then, opposition councilors and civil associations had filed weeks before the Superior State Audit for the irregularities committed in the adjudication process, a situation for which former mayor Luis Guillermo Benítez Torres and officials who at that time made up the Acquisitions Committee They were linked to the process in June of last year.

In September 2023, the City Council began a process to recover the 60 million pesos. In October the Administrative Justice Court approved the cancellation of the contract and with it the possibility of recovering said amount. This process is still continuing.
