The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) yesterday presented Mexico as one of the venues for the third edition of the Premier 12
The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) yesterday presented Mexico as one of the venues for the third edition of the Premier 12, a tournament that will bring together various national baseball teams and will be held from November 9 to 24. Ana Guevara, head of CONADE, Horacio de la Vega, president of the Mexican Baseball League, and Guillermo Ramírez, president of the Organizing Committee, headed the event.
“It is the most important baseball tournament worldwide. Over the course of four years, the different national teams from the 200 countries that are part of the WBSC play different tournaments that lead to a ranking, in which after four years, the 12 main teams compete in the Premier 12,” explained Guillermo Ramírez, president of the Organizing Committee.
The Pan American stadium of the Charros de Jalisco, and the one in Santa Teresita, in Nayarit, will be the venues for Group A, made up of: Mexico, the United States, Panama, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and the Netherlands.
“The World Confederation honors us with this great party. We are proud to be able to have our team at home, it will be a full day of watching great baseball on this road to the grand final. With this tournament, the scoring in this sport begins for the 2028 edition of the Los Angeles Olympic Games, so it is no small thing and Mexico will raise its hand to have a place in that Olympic event,” said Guevara.
For his part, de la Vega said that a press conference will soon be offered to announce how the tricolor team will be formed for this tournament.
“The idea is to have between four and five games prior to the Premier 12 that will serve as preparation. There are certain rules and we have to see if the major league teams can lend us a player for those dates, we have talked with some of them, but we will have a very specific press conference on the subject,” he said.
In Group B, which will be played in Japan, there are, in addition to the locals, the teams of South Korea, Chinese Taipei, Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Australia.
The top two teams in each group will compete in the Super Round. The teams in first and second place in this round will play in the Premier 12 Championship duel, while the third and fourth place finishers will compete for a bronze medal.
